Our Life in the "Big Room"- Introduction

My husband is the senior pastor of our church, so it's no surprise that if you drive by the building, you'll see one or both of our cars in the parking lot.  In short, we are there a lot! And if you ask, my kids will tell you that their favorite room is, you guessed it, THE BIG ROOM! Any chance my kids get to play in this room (known to most people as the Multi-purpose room), they will take it!
Really there's nothing especially glamorous about this large square room...no fancy lights, no big slides, or snack bar. Just a few thousand square feet of open space to run, ride their bikes (My oldest learned to ride his bike in this room!), kick a ball or build a fort with the couch cushions. This big room has held many church Thanksgiving dinners, birthday parties, wedding receptions, fitness classes, youth events and many more that I'm sure I'm forgetting. I'm always amazed at how this special room can be transformed for any occasion! But my favorite use for this room is simple. Every Tuesday, during the fall, winter and spring months a group of moms get together for a couple of hours and let our kids run around and we chat...no agenda, just chat, about all things motherhood, children, spiritual, education or the latest Hallmark movie. The Big Room is where I grew into motherhood, its where I learned how to "be a pastor's wife" and where I learned how to be a better friend and believer. In short this room often brings our church family together as a community to catch up, celebrate, grieve, and serve.  From here on out I will just be giving you a glimpse into our crazy, busy, beautiful life in ministry...the highest of highs and the lowest of lows from the past and the present!

"Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel." Proverbs 27:9
